Creating a Split Test and Applying It to a Rule

You can use split tests to check the impact of performance rules, security rules, and third parties.

There are two steps to creating split tests. First, you create the split test and define what percent of traffic to apply each variation to. Then you apply performance or security rules to different variations of the split test.

To create a split test:

  1. To open the Context Intelligence Settings page, click Settings > Context Intelligence.

  2. Click Add Split Test.

  3. In the Create Split Test slider, give your split test a descriptive name.

  4. If you want shoppers to always experience the same variation of the split test, select Sticky.

  5. Under Segmentation, give each variation a descriptive name and define what percent of traffic to apply the variation to.

  6. Click Save.

The slider closes and the split test appears in the Split Tests list.

To edit or disable a split test, click next to the split test in the Split Tests list.

To apply a split test to a rule:

You can apply a split test to a new or existing rule in the Create Performance Rule or Create Security Rule slider.

  1. Open the Create Performance Rule or Create Security Rule slider by doing one of the following:

    • On the Performance Rules or Security Rules page, click Create Rule.

    • On the Performance Rules or Security Rules page, click next to the rule you want to edit and click Edit Rule.

  2. Set the desired options for the rule.

  3. In the Apply To section, select Specific Page Views.

  4. In the first drop-down, select the Split Test.

  5. In the next two drop-downs, select the split test you want to use and the variation you want to apply the rule to.

Because split tests are loaded asynchronously, they might take a few seconds to appear in the drop-down.

  6. Set any additional options and click Send to Publisher.
